Toxic Waihola on Water Day!

No water day at camp for Rooms 11 and 13  due to high toxicity levels of the algae in Lake Waihola. How did they cope with this disaster?

In week 6 in term 1, Rm 11 and Rm 13 had school camp at Waiora Scout Camp.

On the Wednesday of camp both our classes were supposed to spend a day at Waihola doing rafting, kayaking and sailing. But we were told that a warning had been put up about Lake Waihola having toxic algae in its waters that could be dangerous to our health. Instead, we re-scheduled and undertook a scavenger hunt and a range of other activities, like berry picking, the waterslide, yabbie searching, NFL games and so on. We also had a very competitive triathlon, which Rm 13 unfortunately won. In the evening Rm 13 joined us at the bonfire to toast marshmallows in the embers and to talk about all the fun we had during the day.
