Korowai

Written by Kaysen Saville-Tonihi

Room 20 has been working on Korowai which is also known as a Maori cloak. Many people get Korowai for different things but mostly leaders. A Korowai is a worn as a mantle of prestige and honour.
Our Korowai represents us because our mihi is written inside. Real korowai are made with Muka tassels. We have coloured our cloaks in with pens and pencils and have done a design that represents who we are or some people have drawn feathers on theres. Our korowai have a photo of our face and so it looks like we're wearing them.
