Otago Rugby Representatives 2015

These holidays a group of boys are representing Otago in various tournaments. They have been training really hard in the lead up.

Under 65kg - Rowan Wingham, Ryan Watterson and Lucas Eymor.

Throughout the weekend a group of Tahuna pupils will be attending the South Island rugby tournament. It will be held over the course of 4 days in Timaru .

We have been training In all conditions rain, hail and snow and we have trained for a total of 48 hours. We have been lucky enough to train in the Forsyth Barr Stadium. So far we’ve won all 3 of our games by a convincing amount of points.

We’re all looking forward to traveling up to Timaru and taking out the competition.

Under 48kg - James Nicholson, Jay Davis & Bryson Carraher

After three separate tournaments of trailing and playing against 2 other zones (South West Otago and Central Otago) the Otago Representative Under 48kgs Rugby Team was named. Many boys and girls from Tahuna trialed for this team but Jay Davis (Lock) , Bryson Carraher (Loose Forward) and James Nicholson (Wing/Fullback) were the only three to make it this far. Over the next 8 weeks after the trials we have practise ranging from Lawrence all the way up to Clyde. Our training sessions have consisted of mostly fitness work and ball skills. Apart from trainings we have had 4 games against Southland and The Hannan Shields. We have won 3 of the 4 games.

All of our training and games have lead up to our upcoming tournament in the first weekend before the holidays, the tournament is in Timaru and provinces from all over the South Island compete. Our team is almost ready and we are all very excited!

Under 35kg - Angus Cameron

Two months ago I made it into the U38kg Otago City Rugby team. To get into the team we had three tournaments in Mosgiel ,Cromwell and Tapanui. There were two metro teams blue and gold. I was in blue. The other two team participating were South West and Central. In the three tournaments the coaches of the Otago team watched to see if you were  good enough to make the team.

In practices we do suicides, press ups and down and ups for fitness. We also do in game drills such as passing and tackling. The previous tournament our team won two out of the three games. Winning against Southland City and Southland Country and losing to Otago Country. My whole experience has been really cool.
