Year 8 Term 2

Welcome back to the new normal!

It has been a great start back for the Year 8 team under Level 2 restrictions. For most students it was a chance to catchup with classmates face to face (at a safe distance) as well as returning to school routines and adjusting to new ones. I have been super impressed with the Year 8 students in the way that they have transitioned back into the classroom. This has brought about a change in the classroom layout and content delivery. BYOD (bring your own device) has been a huge success with many students able to bring their device from home. This has helped immensely with our curriculum delivery as we have maintained as much as possible our digital context with more guided support by the classroom teacher.

Unfortunately due to Covid our Year 8 students will miss out on the opportunity for swimming this term and we are unable to include it into terms 3 and 4. The Moana pool team are gutted by this but are looking forward to working with our Year 8 students next year.

Covid has brought about new and exciting challenges. The Dunedin 2040 project was launched and all Year 8 students are tasked with the challenge of finding solutions that our city is facing in the coming years. Each class will enter their best solution or idea for one of the 6 challenges. This will be presented in term 3 at the Otago Polytechnic. I am looking forward to seeing what our students can come up with.

Let's hope Level 1 is just around the corner. Well done Team 8 keep up the awesome work.
