Day 1 at Tirohanga

On Monday the 20th of February we headed off to camp. That morning we had to bring our heavy bags down to the shared space then we went to play until the morning bell rang. When it rang we did the roll and started bringing our luggage down to where the coach was to pick us up. Then we loaded it into the bottom of the bus and got on.

On the way over I saw loads of sheep and a couple of horses and ponies. When we got there we unloaded the bus and put all our stuff in a pile on the pavement then we went over where we were and weren’t allowed to go and all the other rules.

We then set up our tents and made our beds. We then moved our bags into the cabins, got changed into our togs and went down the water slide. We got really soapy and grassy! After that we had free time then we went on a hike over the hills. It was really muddy and slippery.

After that we went slightly into the forest and made bivvies out of the logs that were lying around, pinecones, leaves and pine needles. We were in our activity groups and we had a competition for the best one. My team didn’t win, team 3 were the winners. We then had free time and practiced for the camp concert.

Afterwards we cooked dinner. We had Nachos for dinner. We were in groups of 2 or 3 and we had to light the gas cooker, collect the mince then mash up the meat. We then collected the beans and tomatoes to mix in as well as the Nacho powder. We had apple crumble with ice-cream for dessert. After that we had free time, got in our PJ’s and wrote in our booklets. We then got ready for bed and went to sleep.
