Year 7. Term 3. Done and Dusted

What a explosive end to the term for the Year 7's

The Year 7's have had a busy end of term working on their Wonder Project Rockets. We have been very fortunate to have engineers, Andrew Blacker and Rob Douglas working with some classes to help them design and improve their rockets. These rockets have been reaching great heights and distances. Year 7 team competitions are currently being held to see who's rocket will travel the furtherest.

In conjunction with this activity we were fortunate to have Dr Esther Hains from the University of Otago Physics Department come along with the crash carts to explain, model and simulate Newton's 3 laws of motion.

Over the past two weeks the Year 7's have been working through the Kia Kaha Programme and safety online with Constable Peter Bevin. The students have been learning about ways to keep themselves safer online and how to make appropriate choices when using social media.

Students have been encouraged to talk to parents about what is happening online and will be finishing the unit by making a poster with guidelines for safety online.

A highlight for the child was to have a simulation of an arrest. There was great intrigue about what this felt like and what is contained in a police vest.

Next term we will be doing the DCC Biking Programme, Movie Making, and our annual Marae Week.

The Year 7 team hope you have a great holiday and get out and explore what NZ has to offer.
