Kī-o-rahi is a game we play with our class. Kī-o-rahi is a traditional Maori game that will feature at the Matariki Festival, Māori New Year celebrations. It is a game you can play with your friends and family. You can either play touch, tackle or rippa. There are two teams, one is called Taniwhā and the other is called Kī Oma. Shown above is a diagram of the field and it will explain how to play. The ball you play with is called the Ki.

Ki-o-Rahi is a very fun game to play. Mostly because everyone is doing something the whole time. I highly recommend that you play this game. We play this game for both the enjoyment and to pick up a whole lot of new skills. We have also learnt Te Reo Māori and other things about the Māori culture from just playing this game.
