Tahuna Hip Hop teams take show on the road.
Our incredible Mana Toroa and Mana Tama Whā hip hop dance teams recently took their performance skills on the road — and what an unforgettable performance it was!
Over the past term, our students have been working hard creating their own routines. This year they have had success at hip hop regionals, hip hop nationals, Winter Carnival, and the Hoiho Basketball game. Last week, they had another exciting opportunity to share their mahi with Tainui School and St Clair Primary School, taking their energy, passion, and talent out into the community.
Mana Toroa and Mana Tama Whā delivered a powerful and polished performance that showcased their hard work. Both Tainui and St Clair proved to be amazing audiences!
To wrap up their show, our hip hop dancers closed with a crowd-favourite: a cypher and dance battle! Our dancers each invited members of the audience to jump in and share the dance floor. A few of the teachers from St Clair school even jumped up and joined in! It was hype and so fun to watch!
Afterwards, some of our hip hop dancers shared that this trip was one of their standout highlights of the entire year, and it’s easy to see why. The manaakitanga from both schools, the joy of performing, and the chance to inspire younger tamariki made the experience truly special.
A huge thank you to all our performers for representing our school with pride and passion this year! We can’t wait to see where their talent takes them next! We are looking forward to continuing with our Hip Hop teams next year - and we wish our graduating year 8 dancers all the best and hope they will keep dancing as they move on to high school.
The teams have been a privilege to coach this year!
A heartfelt thank you, from Mrs Kutia.
