Ki o rahi, 19A's favourite new game

Over the last few weeks we have been playing an exciting game called Ki o rahi.

The game consists of two teams (taniwha and kī oma), the taniwha has to try and get a ball (ki) and hit it against a big bright blue bin (tupu) to score a point.

The kī oma needs to stop them, they have the important job of choosing 3 or so people to try and defend the ki and consistently stop it from hitting the tupu.

They tupu defenders also have a group of people on the outside of the attackers ready to run to poles (pou) to score their team a point (if they can score a try in the centre). When the tupu defenders save the ki and possibly catch it, they can then throw the ball to their teammates on the outside of the circle and then the runners can run to the pou to hopefully score their team a point.

As soon as the ki enters the outside the attackers run and try to rip off 1 of the 2 rips before the other team can hit the ki to as many pou as they can. Once 1 of the rippers get ripped off they have 3 seconds to pass the ki. If two rippers are removed then it is an automatic hand over to the taniwha.

We are all excited for the future of ki o rahi and the exciting games we can compete in.
