Tongan Language Week
Malo e lelei!
This week our class has been learning about Tongan language and culture. In lockdown we did a slide of learning numbers and greetings. To celebrate we made our own Tapa cloths, it’s one of Tongans most important possessions. Before money Tapa cloths were considered the same value, they were used as clothing, bedding and wall hanging. It is used at weddings, birthdays and funerals or important events. They are made from bark that is softened through a process of soaking and beating. They are designed with patterns that represent people such as the triangles represent the pathway of life. Here are some examples of our own!
