Year 8 News

Another productive middle half of the term for our Year 8 students!

Our students have been busy with our Mahika Kai project, designing their own unique fishing lures and hooks. They’ve been researching the traditional fishing methods used by Kāi Tahu to catch barracouta (maka). Once completed, our hooks and lures will be displayed at school for everyone to see.

Students have been getting into the competitive spirit during our PE athletics programme, in preparation for our athletics day in week one of Term 4. They've been practising everything from individual sprints to team relays, and refining their technique in a range of field events like discus and shot put.

As part of our EOTC (Education Outside the Classroom) programme, students have also started their rock climbing programme at Long Beach. Every Year 8 class will have the fantastic opportunity to spend a day with professional instructors. Room 10 has already been out, and it was great to see so many students step outside their comfort zone and give it a go!

In Week 9, Rooms 22 and 11 will be heading out, followed by Room 16 in Week 10. The rest of the Year 8 classes will have their days in Term 4.

Finally, students have been making the important decision of choosing their high school for 2026. For more information, please contact your respective high schools.

So much happening and more to come!
