Girls and Boys Cricket - Term 1 2021

During Term 1 the Girls and Boys cricketers of Tahuna took on the other schools of Dunedin in knock-out and regular weekly matches. Our Girls, combined with DNI, played St Hildas, Balmac and Kavanagh in an inclusive, round robin format on Wednesday afternoons. This was a great opportunity for the Girls to learn some new skills, meet new friends and enjoy the game that is cricket. Unfortunately, the Tahuna Girls team had to default their NZC knock-out game due to lack of players available. 

The Boys cricket trial was held in Week 2 with a huge number of players willing to show off their cricketing talents. With only 14 slots available, this proved to be a hard task. A squad was formed then we were straight onto the ground to play our first NZC knock-out match against DNI. 

A solid batting effort meant that DNI would have to bat sensibly but score runs at a fast rate. Tahuna came away with win #1 ticked off. Tahuna 142/5. Fletcher Hawken 43, Sam Drake 29. BEAT DNI 82. Sam Drake 2-15-4, Zac Scott 2-11-2 

With a default from East Otago, Tahuna advanced straight into the semi-finals taking on Balmac. Knowing that the opposition was strong, we planned and stuck to strategies but unfortunately Balmac were too strong. Tahuna was bowled out for 18 and Balmac chased the total down in quick time. Our dream of travelling to the National tournament was over but our motivation for next year has just begun. Tahuna 18. LOST Balmac 19/0.
