Financial literacy in Room 6

By Layla Wainwright

During the past few weeks our class, Room 6, has been focusing on financial literacy during math sessions. We have covered a range of topics from taxes to mortgages, and insurance to interest rates, which are essential for a financially savvy life!🤩

Our financial journey started with exploring simple and compound interest and then comparing the rates offered by different banks. We also learned about weekly and monthly rates for it.

After that, we learnt all about mortgages and their advantages, taxes and their cons, and great information on income and how cool it is!

One of the most enjoyable activities we had was an insurance game using dice and paper. We rolled the dice to determine which car and house we would purchase and what interest rate would come along with it. Towards the end of the game, we rolled the dice to see what would happen in our lives and which insurance would help us.

Then concluding all of our hard work, effort and fun times, we learnt all about the benefits and pros of retiring - a perfect way to end it!

Though we might be learning more about financial literacy in the next few terms, I think we have processed a great deal and learned so much during these awesome sessions.

Thanks so much, Mr Min!
