What's Been Happening in Room 10

For a few weeks Rooms 9 and 10 have been doing a paper plane challenge to try and beat the world record for the longest flying paper plane, on the Guinness world. Last week Room 10 we challenged Room 9 to see who could win the paper plane challenge. Well done to. Room 9 for winning the challenge. The longest through was a whopping 19.5 !metres from Noah in Room 9 and 17 metres from Liam in Room 10. The Paper Plane challenge was part of our Statistics unit. We learned about Mean, Median, Mode and Range, This challenge was apart of the Mean (Average) statistics. The average throw for Room 10 was 7m and Room 9 was 9m.

Bronze Reading Badge

This term Room 10 has been working on our Bronze Reading Badges, we made a deal that if we all got our reading badges done in 6 weeks we would be able to get hot chips. Last week everyone was able to finish their reading badges. We are now just waiting for everybody to return so we can celebrate as a team!

Letter writing

We have been learning about how write a formal letter. Some students have been working convincing Mr Clarke to take us on a trip or a Term 2 elective. Josh thinks we should take a trip to Singapore. Lucas, Harry, Hugo and Te Ariki are trying to get a Mountain biking elective going, here is their letter.

5th April 2022

Dear Mr Clarke

Students in Room 10 would like to know if it would be possible to have Mountain Biking elective in term 2 and 3. The reason for this is because children have been biking out of school and want to carry this hobby into school for other people to have a go at it and for other people to enjoy.

The destination will be at Signal Hill or Redwoods and we will bring our own bikes. Our method of transportation will be the school vans and we are hoping that you can support us with a mountain biking trailer. The reason we will only need one trailer is because we will limit the number of students coming on this elective, Our ideal number of students coming on this elective would be 15.

We will be riding in groups of 3 to 5 to make sure we don't go anywhere we are not meant to go and so that we know if someone ends up getting injured. 1 person will bring their phone from their group in case something goes wrong.

We have asked Mr Wells and one of the parents if they would like to take it and they have agreed so long as you give permission for us to do it.

We look forward to your response.

Yours Sincerely,

Lucas Kramers, Harry Newcombe, Te Ariki Roma and Hugo Iida

Sports blurb by Jack and Fred

Over the past few weeks Room 10 has been focusing on doing shuttles and dodgeball for P.E. Mr Wells has been teaching us new games like goalie dodgeball, a cricket fielding game and a rob the nest-tag type game.

Shuttles are fitness things we do before a game where you get into groups and then you take turns running back and forth three times, but each time you have to go further than the previous time. While you are running the other people in your group have to do different exercises. If they stop then your whole group has to start the shuttles all over again.

Goalie dodgeball is basically normal dodgeball except you have to throw the ball into a goal, which is protected by two goalies. The goalies are the only people in the team allowed in a certain area. Also, the ball has to bounce at least once before it gets in the goal to count as a point. You cannot win by getting everybody in the other team out, you have to score a goal.

The tennis ball game is a game where everybody starts with a tennis ball and you have to spread out within an area and then the person running the game, Usually Mr Wells or another teacher, will give the starting signal. The aim is to get as many tennis balls as possible before time runs out. To get a tennis ball you have to use an underarm or light overarm to throw the ball at someone. If it hits them they have to drop all the balls that they have on them. Once they drop them then you have to try to grab them before someone else does. If they catch the ball then you have to drop your balls.
