What's in our food
Food Science elective has been investigating food.
Over the past few weeks budding young scientists have been coming to the food science elective to look at how different foods are made from reactions and change of states.
We have made traditional fizzy drinks from and acid base reaction. Check out the faces as they try the raw ingredients separately. The final sherbet outcome was far more enjoyable.
We have looked at flavouring and coatings in sweets to see what each of those components do. Check out the skittles reaction where the colours don't mix. Did you know the 'S' floats because it is printed on with rice paper.
We have looked at growing rock candy from seeded crystal sticks. Our technique needs a little revising after three failed attempts. Cooling the mixture is key to success!
Our up and coming activities involve natural glow in the dark foods.
