Aerobics Nationals
On Friday the 18th of September, five Tahuna Aerobics girls flew up to Wellington for the 2015 NZCAF Aerobics Nationals. The team includes Amaya Leslie, Nelia McDowall, Jessica Scott, Ali Bloem and Ruby Cameron. We all qualified for our own individual routines at Regionals about a month ago.
We arrived in Wellington on Friday night and settled in. The next morning we got ready by getting our hair done, doing our make-up and putting on our leotards and Tahuna tracksuits. The competition was held at Wellington High School. There was a massive crowd! We started to warm up and stretch at around 10 am. Today was heats. Amaya was first up out of the 13 Intermediate girls. Next was Jessica, then Ali, Nelia and then Ruby. We all tried our very best and Amaya ended up getting 2nd in heats. Ali got 4th, Jessica got 9th, Ruby got 11th and Nelia got 12th. The top 7 got through to finals which was Amaya and Ali. Even though the rest of us didn't get through, we were still very proud of ourselves and happy that we made it to Nationals.
The next day was finals. Ali and Amaya did really well and managed to get placings. Amaya placed 3rd and Ali placed 2nd. Amaya also won the Technical Excellence Trophy out of everyone. After finals we went into town and explored Wellington a bit more. To celebrate our achievements, we ordered pizza and went out for dessert at a restaurant called Strawberry Fare. Early the next morning we flew back home to good old Dunners.
It was such a fun experience and we all hope to do it again next year!
"If there are any new year 7's wanting to do aerobics next year, there will be an opportunity to come to a "give it a go" session in term 4 this year. Tahuna has a good reputation for strong intermediate athletes now, so I want to keep this going" Kerry Remon
