Specialist Subjects

A busy hive of activity across all specialist classes as students have been putting their newly acquired skills into action!

Visual Art:

Our talented Year 8 students have swapped traditional blending techniques for a more "blocked out" approach, diving deep into the world of Pixel Art Portraits.

Inspired by images being formed through colourful pixels with computing, the students had to think how to capture their likeness using nothing but squares. The Challenge of the grid was deciding how "chunky" or detailed their portrait should be to best represent their personality.

Our Year 7 students have been busy mastering the tactile and expressive medium of soft pastels, merging colours using some very "sweet" subjects to hone their skills.

By zooming in on these objects, students were encouraged to show the vibrant pigments and look past the "thing" and instead see the shapes, highlights, and shadows that make them look three-dimensional.

E-Tech:

Students continue to develop their skills in an online capacity but have recently been enjoying a variety of technological challenges, including creating newspaper structures and paper plane projectiles. Some excellent problem solving and teamwork in action.

Food Tech:

Students have been creating frozen desserts, including mochi, boysenberry swirl, mango sorbet, hazelnut gelato and sherbet ice cream. Students get to design their own burgers and also carry out costing, so don't be surprised if they have a newfound awareness of food costs!

Year 7 students conjuring up a true South Island delicacy with the cheese roll cooked in the airfryer. Check out all the proud smiles and some pretty impressive concept designs.
