Tahuna Hosts Successful Oamaru Exchange
On Wednesday 17 June, Tahuna Normal Intermediate proudly hosted our annual exchange with Oamaru Intermediate School.
The day brought together students from both schools for a fantastic celebration of sport, competition, and friendship, with students competing across Rugby, Football, Hockey, Netball, Basketball, and Chess.
With venues spread throughout Dunedin, students had the opportunity to test themselves against quality opposition while representing their schools with pride. Our Netball and Basketball teams competed at the Edgar Centre, Rugby was played at Hancock Park, Football at Tahuna Park, Hockey at King's High School Turf, while our Chess players competed back at Tahuna.
Throughout the day, students demonstrated excellent sportsmanship, teamwork, and resilience. Whether on the field, court, turf, or across the chessboard, participants embraced the challenge of competition and represented their schools in a positive manner.
The Rugby fixture was physical and highly competitive, while Football provided plenty of exciting moments and skilful play. Hockey was played in great spirit, and our Netball and Basketball teams competed fiercely throughout the day. Our Chess players also impressed with their concentration, strategic thinking, and composure under pressure.
While the results were important, the exchange was about much more than winning and losing. The day provided opportunities for students to challenge themselves, develop new friendships, build confidence, and create lasting memories. These experiences are an important part of school sport and help foster strong connections between our two schools.
A highlight of the day was the opportunity for our students to host and welcome their Oamaru counterparts to Tahuna. As hosts, our students showcased the values of our school community, demonstrating respect, hospitality, and pride in everything they did.
A huge thank you must go to all staff, coaches, managers, officials, and parent supporters who contributed to making the exchange such a success. Events like this simply would not be possible without their ongoing support and commitment.
We would also like to thank Oamaru Intermediate School for making the trip to Dunedin and for the positive spirit in which they approached the exchange. We look forward to continuing this valued tradition for many years to come.
Congratulations to all students who represented Tahuna Normal Intermediate. You were outstanding ambassadors for our school and should be extremely proud of your efforts, both on and off the sporting arena.
