Manga and Anime Elective
Manga (漫画 Manga?) are comics created in Japan, or by Japanese creators in the Japanese language. Manga is a Japanese term that can be translated as "comic."
Students come along every Friday and get shown different aspects of drawing. We started with proportions of the face, studied eyes, hair and facial expressions. Every week students study a new style of anime and manga.
We have explored steampunk also, incorporating mechanical objects into our characters face or an item of clothing. Japanese culture can be inserted also. One week we looked at the beautiful Koi fish and Cherry blossoms. Students were asked to use these in their drawings. Some had the blossoms on clothing or in a more traditional way by having a tree. The fantasy that manga and anime allow artists to follow, means that we can have koi fish in the back ground.
