Creative Writing At It's Best!!
Room 16 Participate In #GetNZWriting
In Room 16 we have been doing a project called Get New Zealand writing or #GetNZWriting. We applied and were sent a box from the warehouse stationery that included a poster, postcards, awesome stationery like pens, washi tape, highlighters and rubbers, a bag to post it in and instructions.
First we had to write a class poem using metaphors. We split into our reading groups and brainstormed ideas. The four groups brainstormed and wrote metaphors about: the classroom environment, the students, the learning and the class community. Every one made sentence and we edited them together and added them to the box.
Next we made postcards. Everyone wrote down a metaphor for themselves in the categories of a building, a vehicle, a item of clothing and a food. Next we coloured in the back and put them in the box to. All that was left was the poster.
Our poster was a class effort, first we counted how many people in our class who could waggle our ears, lick our elbows, roll our tongues and cross our eyes. The rest of the poster was too big to go through everything together so we split into groups.
Some of us cut out a poem from some newspaper cuttings, some of us drew pictures and maps of the classroom and our values, a team of us looked up the longest word we could find and we brainstormed together what our six favourite words were. After a couple of other additions we were ready to put it in the box and send it up to Auckland. We look forward to receiving theirs!
