Marae Week 2021

Check out some of the things we did to learn about tikanga Māori in the Hub during Marae Week.

Marae week is often one of the highlights of the year and this year was one of the best yet!

The Hub have been enjoying tikanga Māori throughout the week. The students have experienced powhiri, waiata, tukutuku design and weaving, haka, myths and legends, kī-o-rahi, traditional games, harakeke weaving and our yummy hangi yesterday.

The week culminated in our kī-o-rahi knockout competition and the Y7 class haka competition. 19 and 19A produced fierce and stirring hakas in front of over 300 people. We don’t know the results of the competition yet, but we all showed tremendous growth, hard work and focus throughout the work to produce such an epic haka.
