Tahuna Specialist Areas

Students are both excited and extremely engaged learners as they have started the term in a new specialist subject. Make sure you ask them at home what they have been doing!

Visual Art: Congratulations to Isabel Crawford and Olive Cooke for receiving first prize and highly commended for their art work displayed in the Peninsula Schools Art Exhibition held at Bayfield High School. Isabel's work was also judged first place, overall from the schools exhibiting. I received such positive feedback from people about the variety and quality of artwork on display from all our Tahuna students. It was a successful event where our students were given the opportunity to display their work in public.

Materials Tech: Year 8 students are enjoying completing a small quick project to get their skills back up to speed and have begun making a wide array of shelves and display items for their second bigger project that should take the next 7 weeks.

Year 7 students are now beginning their second skill project to reinforce their skills and initial learning

Both groups are following the brief, using White pine to make a multiple piece project with a contrasting material featured and to finish the project within time and to the correct size.

All students are enjoying using the new access door to the workshop and making good use of the machine bay area.

Food Technology: Year 7 students eagerly completed their food tech licence and have been practicing their measurement skills during their first practical sessions. Amazing pizzas were designed and then brought to life, many proud smiles once they were dished up to the dining tables!

Year 8 students have been refining their practical skills by creating their own dumplings, fruit turnovers and passata with spaghetti. Watch out for their food design later on in the term.
