Looking ahead to Term two.
Sports, science, chess, robotics and electives, it is all go for next term
As we draw to an end of term one I would like to thank all the parents and caregivers who joined our classes out on camp this term. If you missed out on going to camp we will no doubt need parents and caregivers to support us next term on our EOTC activities.
Term two is a great term for the Year 7's we have a large focus on Science Fair. All Year 7 children will be working on a science fair project throughout the term. Class teachers will be teaching fair testing, statistics, procedure writing, layout, infographics and how to write a scientific conclusion. Science boards will be on sale at the school office get in quick as these sold out throughout Dunedin leading up to the science fair last year. Our Year 7's were exceptionally successful at the Aurora Science Fair last year where we had 76% of our Year 7's win one or more prizes which was an amazing result.
In mid June all Year 7 students will be going to the University of Otago Physics department to look at light, electricity and force. They will also be looking at the Māori culture in Tūhura, with each zone including a pou relating to the Māori gods, as well as a focus on western science and Mātauranga Māori. Once again class teachers will be looking for parents and caregivers to support this activity.
Electives start next term. These are interest activities and sports the students have selected to do on a Friday morning. There is a great variety from theatre sports to photography. Robotics and chess are also electives for next term and students will be preparing for the Otago/ Southland competitions in late June.
I would like wish all students and families a safe holiday and look forward to seeing you all back next term.
