Rūma Ono launch their Escape Rooms!
Our first taste of Project Based Learning (PBL) was a huge hit!
Project Based Learning is a big part of our learning at Tahuna
Project-based learning (PBL) is a teaching method where students gain knowledge and skills by working on complex, real-world problems or challenges over an extended period, fostering active learning and deeper understanding.
The students' first taste of Project Based Learning was answering the following driving question:
How can we apply and demonstrate the Tahuna values using the PBL process to create an escape room?
Throughout the term we learned about the school values, developed our collaborative skills and gained a strong understanding of the design process.
Students learned about escape rooms, different challenges, codes, cyphers, puzzles as well as the phases of project based learning and all the terminology like driving questions, products, iterations, ideations, prototyping, the importance of feedback, managing work flow by using a scrum wall and so much more.
Our clients from R5 took part in our eight different escape rooms and it was amazing to see the wide variety of challenges on offer, to feel the energy in the air and to see the pride on the students' faces as their hard work paid off and was enjoyed so much by their client.
Term two's PBL will be even bigger and more challenging for the students, but with the foundational PBL skills developed this term, I have no doubt they will absolutely nail it!
