Hi- Vis Vests
Have been issued to students who travel to school on wheels, whether cycling, scootering or skateboarding this week.
These vests were first introduced to Tahuna students in 2012 and this safety expectation has become an accepted part of our travel safe programme. We have had a limited number of the smaller sizes, but encourage our riders to wear their vest over their jacket and back pack which still highlights visibility to motorists.
In receiving the vests, we would hope it raises both vehicle and pedestrian awareness on travel safety. By starting with our Intermediate age group as role models, we would hope it would also encourage others to become highly visible. . Because of our location beside the very busy Victoria Road and having a lot of our students skateboarding, cycling and scootering to school, these vests also signal a very powerful safety message, along with the Code of Conduct that must be signed by all skateboarders and their parents.
Although most of the vests are from the original issue, the school was able to secure a number of larger vests in 2018. These were $15 each and if lost, this is the replacement cost, with $5 to cover the loss of an original vest.
We ask that parents support this student driven initiative as we continue to promote this safety message on our roads.
