Te Taiopeka

Nau mai, Haere mai!

Kapa Haka is valued at Tahuna. Over the years, many students have been involved. 

All Year 7 and Year 8's  are welcome.

Our name Te Taiopeka was gifted to us by Komene Cassidy and it means the 'gathering of the many tides'. This fits perfectly for Tahuna as for us it represents many things. Examples are the gathering of the students from the contributing schools in our area, the partnership between Year 7 and Year 8 students and the relationship Tahuna has with the Otago University with many prospective teachers coming through our doors. 

In Te Taiopeka we build on this as our base. Everyone is always welcome. It's about sharing the love of Kapa Haka with those who want to learn. We do work towards the Otago Polyfest, and really enjoy our performances every year.

We cover Waiata-ringa-ringa, Waiata and Haka. This year we have Mr Tait joining us who has a strong interest in Taiaha so we welcome his expertise and experience.

Tahuna Kapa Haka have performed at many Community events. We pride ourselves in our performances and enjoy sharing the work we have been doing with others. It is lovely to be able to share Māori culture through performance.

Te Taiopeka meet weekly. As the time gets closer to Polyfest, there will be a couple of weekend practices. The cost is $10 for the year and this covers costuming, koha and Polyfest. Notices will be given out at the end of term one for those students who have made the choice to commit to the group for the remaining three terms.
