Specialist teachers — Technology/ICT, Art, Music & Mandarin

Welcome to The Specialist Area at Tahuna Intermediate.

All the students have been split into their different Teams. Year 8 students will rotate around 5 Specialist Teaching areas and each group has completed their first project. The new year 7 students will also have experienced their first full week of 2015, in one of the 6 exciting specialist areas we have prepared for them.

Ask your child how their week has gone, what have they made? and what have they learnt!

Exciting projects in Electronics, stunning aluminium creations, wonderful art works, new music and ICT experiences. Programming Robots and learning about how symbols can be used in technology to communicate complex instructions and concepts. Great tasting food ideas tried out for you at home...

Our Area has grown and now we have an exciting 6th special programme, Techxtra (includes Tech Science (MythBusters), Drama and PE Bio-mechanics/game sense) and which each Year 7 student will get to experience. All students will rotate around the specialist areas and after all students have completed the different learning experiences of the first rotation, a new rotation will begin. Students will complete 18 different units over the course of 2015.

This will give each student a wide introduction to different technologies, different styles of music, Art techniques and a good look at how their science, maths and English understandings are needed to complete fun specialist projects.

One of the outcomes for each student will be to record each of their different projects details in their own e-portfolio. Everyone at home will be able to see and/or hear the students record of learning in their Tahuna Google Drive.

Every second week you will receive a short email, giving you a snapshot of your child's effort and achievement for the the unit they have completed in their specialist week. Please read this and use it as an opportunity to 'look' at and discuss what they have been making and learning.

The wording of the snapshot will give you an indication of how your child is responding to the 'effort' required to complete a particular unit to a satisfactory standard.

Their achievement will been assessed against the curriculum objectives that pertain to that particular units assessment tasks. These tasks are clearly outlined to the students within each unit.

You are welcome to contact the Specialist Staff at Tahuna Intermediate.
