Specialist Subjects: End of Term
Everyone has done a great job in various teaching spaces this term as our specialist block gets redeveloped. Whilst we wait excitedly for its opening, please read about what students have been doing in Tech during Term 1.
Food Tech: After working in their groups to carefully plan recipes, complete costing and create time plans, students have been enjoying completing their final creations. Year 7's have willingly been taste testers for their classmates and given feedback on their finger food products. Year 8 students are either been creating foods from 'Around the World' or creating 'Fakeaways'. Please ask your children to share their learning journals with you in Google Classrom.
Materials Tech: For Term 1 2026 while the Tech block has been refurbished, students in Materials Technology have been making Jewellery, Simple Electronic circuits and Lego Robotic models.
Each student has their own Google Doc Assignment to record their learning in and we have been focusing on Technology curriculum skills which include:
Introducing projects clearly, using Titles, Lists, Photos, Descriptions and Evaluations.
The main new written skill we have practised has been writing evaluations of each finished project.
Each student completed a series of at least 5 simple circuits to reinforce their understanding of simple circuits and then they moved onto individual self selected projects.
Lots of wonderful projects have been produced and the students have enjoyed the choice and ownership of their individual projects.
Please ask to see the students assignments and look at the photos of the range of projects they have worked on over the last 9 weeks.
Re-Tech: Reimagine a process. This term students have worked with a range of tools to deliver projects centred around Cyber Safety and Escape Room design. They have been coding, 3D printing and diving into the world of VR to share, challenge and create fun experiences that deliver a targeted message to a specific audience. No project is ever finished in Re-Tech because students keep reworking and redesigning.
