Tomahawk Lagoon Study

Students from across the school join ECOOTAGO water testing.

On Thursday the 23rd of February, 16 keen citizen scientists headed over to the Tomahawk Lagoon for a training day. They were welcomed by Andrew Innes who spoke about the history of the lagoon water testing.

Dr. Marc Schallenberg spoke to the students about water quality and how the various chemicals, plant life, and animal life can indicate the quality of the water.

The students were walked through the testing and monitoring process. The lagoon was at its lowest depth of 15 cm since Tahuna began monitoring.

The students sorted and counted the bug life and then finished the day off by working on their big question which will guide their work with monitoring throughout the year.
