Specialist Areas Term 1
Students have attended their first subject area for the term and there has been a buzz of excitement as they try out new equipment, techniques and gain knowledge!
In E-Tech Year 7 and 8 students are learning about the different programs they can use to make projects using the laser cutter and 3D printers.Students are being taught the simple file management skills they need to know about, to send their project files to the correct destinations.
Put your order in for jewellery, key rings, name badges and all the fun quirky little projects (clothes pegs!!! ) that you wish you had to hold those awkward things around your home!
In Food Technology Year 7 students have learnt about safety and hygiene guidelines then completed their Food Technology Licence. They have carried out some sensory science experiments as well as designing their own pizza.
Year 8 students have refined their knife skills by making a snack attack platter as well as hummus and guacomole. They continue to develop their practical skills by creating bacon & cheese bread cases and fruit turnovers.
In Hard Materials all students have had a introduction to workshop safety and are working through tool identification and safe usage for their box projects. Students are enjoying practicing using a range of workshop hand tools safely and accurately including a range of saws and chisels.
In Music Year 8 students have blasted the holiday cobwebs out of the music room with their swinging Djembe rhythms. Staying with an African theme, the year 7s are playing the marimbas. We are also singing a very sad song.

In Visual Art it is exciting to see the year 7 students having fun in the art room. They have been getting hands on straight away using coloured dyes, pens and paint to create their own monsters. A chance to use their imagination while also learning where everything belongs in the room. Following on with learning about the Elements of Art and showing examples of this in their sketchbooks.
The Year 8 students have been having a refresher course on shading techniques with a pencil and stencilling with acrylic paint. Students are now beginning their watercolour art pieces.
