Leaders' Lunch with Kiringāua Cassidy

An excellent lunch with Kiringāua.

As part of our work to help our school leaders further develop their leadership skills, we run occasional Leaders' Lunches where students get to hear from a broad range of speakers.

On the last Friday of May, we were delighted to host Kiringāua Cassidy as our guest speaker for one of these lunches.

We invited along the 2025 Tahuna House Leaders plus four students with leadership roles within the School Council and students who play lead roles in the running of te taiopeka and the Pasifika Pride Club.

Kiringāua is a former Tahuna student with a great skill in storytelling. He's packed a huge amount into the ten years since he left Tahuna and those present loved hearing about some of the opportunities he's taken up along the way (one opportunity was being part of the group which translated Disney's Frozen into te reo Māori).

One of Kiringāua's key messages was that we don't always know exactly where we're headed but that we'll often find that the skills we pick up along the way come in very useful when we take on our next challenge. He talked a little about how important his whanau have been when he's been faced with big decisions. Kiringāua also spoke about how, sometimes, we have to take a risk and step away from a safe/comfortable situation to take on a new challenge. Learning to deal with setbacks along the way is also important.

We'd like to extend a huge thanks to Kiringāua for taking the time to visit us and to Eb for setting up this opportunity.
