Tomahawk Lagoon

Community Presentation Day

A huge congratulations to Zac and Ed for coming along to the Tomahawk Lagoon Community Day. The boys presented two presentations, one about the macrophytes and the other about the impact of swans in the lagoon. The students looked for trends and patterns and between the swan numbers and other data within the lagoon. Between the two groups there was a noticeable correlation between the growth of the macrophytes and the number of swans. Thank you to the two groups who created these presentations.

This year we have had 36 keen citizen scientists participating in data collection and monitoring of the lagoon. They have worked hard to collect accurate data and ensure that we were able to answer our big questions about the lagoon.

This weekend we have some other members of our group heading to Christchurch to compete in a robotics competition, where their brief was to create a solution to a problem. They have chosen to create a submersible robot that could carry the YSI machine out further in the lagoon and take the measurements and recordings in multiple places at our site. Well done to this team for such a creative and innovative idea.
