Tahuna Technology
Whilst nearing the end of term, things definitely don't slow down in the tech department! Check out some photos of our amazing student work.
In Visual Art the Year 7 students are showing their understanding of the Elements of Art by highlighting the Positive and Negative Space within their work, using fine motor skills with black pens and a fine tip brush. Enjoy looking at the students working and at their artwork.
The Year 8 students are finishing off their Lino Prints and going on to Wood Block Prints. An extra step is painting the wood once it is cut out.A lot of concentration is needed to think of what areas are cut out along with cutting safely into the wood.
In E-Tech, there is exciting news that we have now successfully networked our 2 new Prusa 3D printers.
Students can now design their projects on Tinkercad and send their finished models directly to the 3D printers. We have printed nearly 100 File name tags this week as a skill building and evaluation task. As the students' projects finished printing they could then evaluate their filename clips using the criteria we set for the mini project, did the clip hold on strongly, was the filename readable and could they stay within the 20 minute max print time. The students will now use these 3D printing skills to design and evaluate their own projects.
In Food Technology Year 7 students have been developing their practical skills with food preparation and measurement, whilst also designing their own rice based snacks and stuffed baked potatoes.
Year 8 students have created rice paper rolls and an apple crumble. In groups, students have been carefully planning and costing 3 of their own recipes that they will be working on over the next few weeks.
In Hard Materials over the past couple of weeks students have worked with metal, used punches, etching machines and scribers, and have made chopping boards and/or swords (the latter require permission from home before they leave the workshop). The learning focus is on the nature of materials - we have rimu, macrocarpa and pine available. Students choose the type of board and the material - in some cases using widening joints to combine two types of wood, and sometimes incorporating brass handles. There is a lot of sanding involved but some beautiful work is being achieved.
