Marae Week 2015.
Room 13 Tukutuku Panels.
During Marae Week, Rm 13 started off with Tukutuku panels. We first drew a design in our book, then we painted on a coat of black paint on one side of the panels. After letting the paint dry we began to thread through our design using different coloured wool. Many of our designs represented us and our families culture.
Many years ago Maori would use dried flax instead of wood and then the Tukutuku panels were hung up in the Marae as decoration and to tell a story about the people in the Marae. Tukutuku panels was one of our favourite activities at Marae Week.
