Esports Minecraft Build Challenge

This week two Tahuna teams of four students headed down to Otago Museum to take on the best Y7/8 Minecraft builders in Ōtepoti.

The challenge was open to 12 teams of 4 ākonga from Year 7/8, who were ready to battle against each other in speed builds using the context of Sir Ian Taylor’s Mātauranga – Land of Voyagers content.

Teams were tasked with collaboratively building a Waka Hourua using Minecraft. Judging was based o the quality of the build, teamwork, knowledge of how Pasifika voyagers navigated the Pacific Ocean and oral language (presenting their work).

Both Tahuna teams produced excellent builds, with only 20 minutes available to them! One of our teams won the teamwork category which was testament to their collaborative skills.

Next year promises to be bigger and even better so watch this space!
