Principal News

It has been a pleasure to show many prospective parents around our school this week. While there is always a small flicker of nerves that we might encounter a student having a challenging day, I shouldn’t have worried.

Everywhere we went, we found classrooms filled with focused students and teachers who are masters of their craft. It was heartening to see our learners so engaged and welcoming. In the science lab, there was a wonderful buzz as students explored chemical changes to create tasty snacks, while the specialist and music rooms were alive with creativity and hands-on discovery. Classrooms had a focused and purposeful feel as students learned algebra in math and instructional writing in English.

I showed a new family around on Friday, and they were blown away by the opportunities that our students have. We had a special performance from our Pasifika group training for Polyfest. They saw 100 or so dancers in the hall having a wonderful time, and it finished with a beautiful song about hope by our choir at assembly, surrounded by students who had supported the school council and its fundraising efforts to raise money for cancer research. It was a sea of yellow!

Well done to all the students who have completed their winter sport, and a special well done to the teams that made finals. Thank you to all parents, teachers and volunteers who take sports teams and a special thank you to Tom, our sports co-ordinator, who has done so much to organise our sports programme.

Parents, please take the opportunity for a well earned sleep-in over the next few weekends and a well deserved break from being taxi drivers until the summer competitions start!
