Specialist Areas
There are lots of interesting creations unfolding across the specialist areas, check out the great images and make sure you ask what your child has been doing in 'tech'.
Visual Arts: Year 7 students have been having fun using their imaginations creating textures inside their hands. Learning about a New Zealand artist and how he created landscapes by ripping and folding paper has been interesting. Year 8 students are creating lolly artwork that looks good enough to eat!
Food Tech: Year 7 students carefully designed their own burgers, and carried out costing. They learnt about high risk foods and how to safely prepare chicken and mince. Some impressive and delicious finished products! Students learnt how to make a roux sauce as they made their own macaroni cheese.
Students have also been learning about the science of baking. This included the denaturation of protein in egg white to make mini meringues, the reaction of baking soda in banana muffins and I wonder if you can tell which group added 1/4 c of baking soda instead of 1/4 t into their cookies....a very inedible learning experience.
Materials Tech: Students are now half way through their Term 3 time in Materials Tech and have finished revisiting their woodworking skills by making a small quick project. The photos attached show the wide variety of individual projects students have branched out onto for their main project, Pizza boards, trinket shelves, mini wooden crates and different sets of models.
Re-Tech: Students continue to work on their creations. The range and diversity are very impressive. computational thinking, process writing and collaboration remains key focuses.
