Room 10 newsletter
By Feidhlim, Kaela and Holly. 15 Feb
So far in Room 10 we have done lots of tests such as a reading e-asttle, math e-asttle, basic facts test and spelling test. We have been sorted into spelling, math and reading groups with the data from the tests.
Fitness
We have learned lots of new fitness games like the wall, dodgeball, and games that revolve around teamwork, and lots of other things in exchange for hard work like Maths, Reading and Writing.
Training for the block run has been hard but we have developed a routine for doing laps, like doing 2 laps one day and then doing 1 the next day so our legs have time to heal. We tend to do fitness in the morning to get warmed up for the day.
Topic Kop Wai Au
In Topic we have been learning about storytelling, our heritage and the maori creation myths. We have also been exploring what the words Whakapapa and Rohe mean to us. We found out that Whakapapa means The links to ancestors, gods, land and/or tribes (So basically an individual’s history.). Rohē means The place where you come from, your land or your area.
Everyday subjects
Writing
In Writing we have been completing daily Quick-Writes which are mostly “Would You Rather?” questions like “Would you rather have a strict but fair teacher or a relaxed and fun teacher?”. We couldn’t just write a yes or no answer, we had to write an elongated explanation so it was really interesting to see all of our classmates’ ideas on the matter.
Maths
Maths has mostly been about graphs. One of our graphs was about the cars that pass by Tahuna road, It could be about what colors of cars you are most likely to see on the road, what different brands , and how many people were in the car, then we would go back inside and graph them, we would calculate the total of colours and colour them in.
Reading
These past few weeks our reading topic has been biographies and autobiographies we have read Kate shepherd's Biography and Roald Dahl’s autobiography.
It has been an awesome start to the year and we can't wait for our up coming camp at the end of the term at Camp Columba.
