Nik Devlin

Candidate Statement August 2022

Kia ora. I’m Nik Devlin, I’m a chartered structural engineer working for a design firm in Dunedin. Our son Macklin is currently in Year 7 at Tahuna Intermediate. I have been a Trustee at my children’s primary school over the past 4+ years and have thoroughly enjoyed contributing to, and participating in, the school’s governance. I would be honoured to be selected to join the Board at Tahuna Intermediate.

My board portfolio at my children’s primary school was property, where I used my professional skills and knowledge to help oversee a major and successful junior block upgrade and provide oversight to the ongoing maintenance and repair of the school. I also enjoyed working with the other board members and staff representative to support the Principal in her efforts to monitor and improve the learning and education experience for the children, whilst trying to navigate what has been an incredibly difficult and trying time for the school and its staff over the last 2+ years.

If selected, I would look to use my previous board experience to contribute to Tahuna Intermediate, by collaboratively combining my skills and knowledge with that of the rest of the board to support the school’s leadership to maintain, and improve if required, the great work of the school, whilst also responding to the needs of the wider school community.
