Tahuna Specialist Teaching

A hive of activity in the specialist teaching areas over the last few weeks. Enjoy looking at these great photos capturing our students in action.

E-Tech: Both year 7 and 8 students have been learning how to create 3D projects in Tinkercad and then check them in Prusa Slicer before sending their files to the 3D printers.

The Assessment task has been to Evaluate the Filename clip each student has made using our four Keywords, Size, shape, colour and arrangement. These skills are then used by the students to make their own 3D projects.

Food Technology: Year 8 students have been using 'Ko Wai Au' as inspiration to bring in their favourite recipes from home and teaching their group how to prepare it. It has been great seeing students develop both their communication and co-operative skills and as you can see from the photos lots of concentration and some delicious final products. We will make an online recipe book that will be shared with students at the end of the term.

Year 7 students continue gaining experience in the kitchen. Understanding measurement, practicing knife skills and stovetop safety whilst creating products. They will be going on to look at Kiwiana foods and designing their own recipes.

Hard Materials: Most students are putting the final touches on their box project. The finishing work is good quality and and there have been some nice touches added by using different types of wood.

Music: In music, Room 1 created a classy groove with multiple rhythms on small and bigger percussion instruments.

At interval and lunchtime students get together to form bands and practice. All sorts of combinations of instruments are explored in the music rooms. Band and orchestra rehearsals continue in the studio.

Visual Art: Year 8 students show self expression through their art based on Ko Wai Au?

Images within art work sharing connections, reflecting Tahuna, whānau family, maunga which is a mountain & Awa , or Moana, a body of water that is special to them or one that they have lived by. Self portraits are about taking a look at themselves and having fun with colour. Year 7 students are looking at the style of the artist Piet Mondrian. Also having fun with a splash of colour going into Tiki Art. Enjoy looking at these great photos!
