Room 3 Rock Climbing

Hear from some Room 3 students about our awesome day climbing at Logan Park and exploring the beautiful Botanic Gardens!

On the 3rd of August, Room 3 went to Logan Park High school and the Botanical gardens. At Logan Park we got taught how to rock climb safely. We learnt how to belay each other so we know how to do it when we go to long beach in week 7. Afterwards we walked to the Botanical gardens. It was a short walk to the gardens. We had lunch when we got there and then we went on a scavenger hunt. It was really fun and then we got to feed the ducks. It was a really fun day and I can't wait for Long beach. - Poppy and Tyla

A few weeks ago the year eights of Tahuna went to Logan park high school’s rock climbing wall. This was preparation for climbing the cliffs of Long beach. We were split into groups of three and we each had a job in our group. The “Climber” tied a rope to their harness which was also attached to a pulley on the wall and the “Belayer” attached the other end of the rope to a pulley attached to their harness and the “second belayer” helped the other belayer. The two belayers pulled the rope which also pulled the climber up! Overall the experience at the climbing wall was fantastic but also terrifying, I would go there again and I feel like I’m fully prepared for all my future climbing endeavours. - Andrew

In week three at Tahuna, all year 8 classes went to Logan Park high school to do rock climbing on their awesome rock climbing wall. We all came to school early and got on the bus which took us to Logan Park. When we arrived we split into two groups, one group went rock climbing and the other group went and tried out the school's gym. The rock climbing place was a room with rocks on each wall. We first put on our safety harness then the instructor taught us how to use the safety ropes preparing us for our outdoor rock climbing at Long beach. Then we split off into groups and took turns climbing up the rock wall. We did this for about half an hour then we switched over with the other group. Once both groups had a turn climbing we walked 20 minutes to the botanical gardens and did an awesome scavenger hunt. - Campbell
