Year 8s Reach New Heights and Prepare for Their Future

As Term 3 wraps up, our Year 8 students are celebrating a term filled with physical challenges, cultural immersion, and skill-building. With Term 4 just around the corner, they are looking forward to a host of exciting new opportunities and a memorable end to their intermediate school journey.

This term, our Year 8s have truly embraced hands-on learning. The highlight for many was rock climbing, where students developed resilience, problem-solving skills, and trust. Our classes have also delved into Mahika Kai, a project-based learning unit focused on traditional Māori fishing techniques. This project has given students a deeper understanding of sustainable practices and a connection to cultural heritage.

On the sports front, physical education has focused on athletics. Students have been busy refining their skills in a wide range of events, including high jump, discus, shot put, relays, sprints, and hurdles. This focus has not only improved their physical fitness but also taught them the value of discipline and teamwork.

Term 4 is set to be one of the most exciting terms yet. Students will be "diving in" to their financial literacy unit, where they will learn how to be financially savvy with their money. The practical application of this knowledge will come to life on Trading Day, where students will be tasked with creating and running their own businesses. This popular event is a chance for them to flex their entrepreneurial muscles and see if they have what it takes to be the next business leader.

To cap off their rock climbing journey, the remaining Year 8 classes will partake in their outing at Long Beach. This will be a fitting conclusion to a term of overcoming challenges.

In addition, Term 4 will see the second round of HPV vaccinations, scheduled for Week 4. These will be administered to students who received the first dose back in Term 2. More information will be sent out to parents early in term 4 about this.

As the school year draws to a close, we have planned a series of special events to celebrate our Year 8 students. They will enjoy an end-of-year outing to Moana Pool and Bowl Line, offering a well-deserved day of fun and relaxation. The year will culminate with the highly anticipated Year 8 Leavers' Disco, a final chance for the students to celebrate their achievements and the memories they've made before they move on to high school.

With so much packed into the final term, our Year 8 students are set for a brilliant finish to the year. We look forward to celebrating all of their hard work and achievements with them.

Ngā mihi
