Food Technology: Healthy Heroes

What are nutrients? What do they do in the body? What are processed foods?

During the 'Healthy Heroes' unit, students have been looking at nutrition and the food groups. We have used sugar cubes to measure the amounts of sugar in a range of popular drinks. Students designed their own mini quiches, using a bread base instead of pastry. We created delicious apple pinwheel scrolls, (perfect for lunch boxes!) and even made our own lavosh crackers.

The design task for the week involved each student completing concept sketches, planning and then creating their own rice based snack suitable for  a 10-14 year old. Creations varied from sushi, rice 'burgers', rice balls and rice triangles. Here is a selection of photos of the scrumptious finished products.

If you want to see more of your child's work, they are able to show you what they have updated to their Learning Journal on Google Docs.
