Ariki Cup Cross Country.

Our school was invited to participate in the Ariki Cross Country cup which in the past has been offered to our Year 6 and below students. The organisers trialled a new initiative by inviting Year 7 and 8 students.

Today saw 40 runners make their way to the Dunedin Rugby club to participated in the annual Ariki cup cross country challenge. As this was a new experience for Tahuna we were pretty excited and set off to the venue by foot at 10.30am. Halfway across the Pirates rugby grounds a telephone call from Mr Gomaz ( who went ahead in his car) had us all running to the start line as organisers decided to run the year 7/8s Boys and Girls together at 11.00am. What a great way to warm up for the event. Runners had time to take their track suits off before the start pistol went off. Long story short Tahuna won the year 7/8 Boys team event having runners coming in  3rd, 5th, 6th, 7th and 8th.

The Year 7/8 Girls came second with runners crossing 4th, 5th, 6th, 7th and 8th. I really was a great day and a great prelude to the Otago Cross country champs which is set to run September.
