Success as the Stars Appear

Matariki is a time of reflection and goal setting.

Room 15 have been studying Matariki over the past week.  We have been looking at the 7 traditional stars of Matariki and the Myths about them,  such as the Seven Sisters, the Seven Fish and the Eyes of Tawhitimatea. We have looked at how myths explain natural events.

We have looked at the constellation and the two new stars Hiwa- i- te- Rangi and Pohutakawa and discussed how the use of technology is finding more stars in this constellation. We have had had a go at writing our own myths to include the discovery.

We have learnt that Matariki is a time of reflection and new beginning where people set goals for the year ahead. We have reset our goals for the rest of the year and were pleased with the success we have had so far at Tahuna.
