Pitched Percussion Perfect
On Monday Tahuna hosted a massed marimba celebration for 190 students from 10 Dunedin schools, filling the hall with music and mallets.
Led by special guest Jeremy Hantler the students performed several massed items on marimbas, xylophones, chime bars and glockenspiels which they have been learning all year in their school marimba groups.
Jeremy had flown down from Tauranga for this event and is a long time presenter for ONZA (Orff Music Education NZ) in the North Island as well as frontman for "The Acoustic Resonators."
Apart from all the pitched percussion the items featured ukuleles, djembe - with a special guest appearance from master Dunedin's drummer Koffie Fugah!-, line dancing and a recorder solo. A wonderful time was had by all.
