Measurement Games In Math

Students have been exploring different types of measurement through game play.

In our math sessions the students have been looking at measurement. It has been a fun unit, where the we used measuring tools, rulers, blocks, games and made estimates with these tools to help us to quantify the world around us.

They can tell us how tall we are, how much we drink, how heavy we are and how far it is from here to there. Basic measures of distance and time allowed the students to calculate speed and acceleration over 100m to 2000m. We had to discover how fast we thought we could run a specific distance then use our measuring tools to work it out.

In other sessions, we looked at volume. This was a highlight, where students built a variety of shapes and then worked out the volume of these. We also worked on a variety of measurement games in the class. All these activities and more really helped the students understand the various concepts of measurement and how much we use measurement in our everyday lives.
