Year 8 in the Science Lab using filtration and evaporation.

Room 12 spent some time in the science lab this week separating sand and salt using filtration and evaporation.

"In the experiment we firstly got 10g of sand and salt mixed together and 50ml of water. We mixed them together in a beaker and left it for 2 minutes.

We then got a funnel and put our carefully folder filter paper in. We poured the mixture through the paper and waited patiently for the sand to be filtered out and the salt to be mixed in the bottom of the beaker with the water.

We then poured the water into the evaporating dish and boiled it until salt crystals were left." (Sarah Q and Mackenzie G)
