Bikes, goggles, running shoes!

Triathlons consist of three sports, biking, running, swimming or kayaking.

Triathlons always consist of three sports. Most of the time these sports are biking, running, swimming or kayaking. Kayaking is normally in the longer triathlons.

When you are competing in a triathlon you will need your swimming togs, goggles, towel, bike, helmet, running gear and a BIG lunch. Triathlons usually begin with the swimming leg but some triathlons start with the running. The next event is biking. It is the longest and often the hardest if the track has hills, dips and potholes. The last event could be swimming or running. The swimming in an average adult triathlon is about 200m. The running is 3km and the biking 12km.

The transitions for the events sometimes feel like they are very slow, but everyone has to do them so that evens things out. When the triathlon starts you have your togs on with a t-shirt over the top. The second transition you just have to grab your bike and away you go. The final transition is you peel off your running gear, put on your goggles and sprint to the pool.

Triathlons originally came from France and were invented by Scott Tinley. Triathlons are grouped according to age and if you are a boy or girl.
