Remuera Exchange 2017

What a week! So much fun in such a short time. Independent skills enhanced and some lifelong friendships gained. All students were fantastic ambassadors for Tahuna.

To stay in Auckland was very fun, it’s so much bigger than Dunedin. It was a fun, but nervous experience and I miss my host family in Auckland. At the same time it was good being back in Dunedin. I think this experience in Auckland was the best time I have had in the North island. (Lauren)

I found the billeting experience was great and I found it exciting to do something like this particularly because I had never done it before. It was a little bit similar to my family but they seemed to not see a 1/10 of the city in the week whereas our family commute to the “busier” places more often. This trip really increased my confidence, independence and ability to be able to stay away from home for a decent period of time. (Cam)

I learnt that families in Auckland do lots of things differently. They get up much earlier than me, and it takes a lot longer to drive places. I never catch the bus to and from school but I did in Auckland, and the bus was very busy. Luckily our bus stops was one of the first so we always got a seat. I think the billeting is really cool and I became good friends with my host family. (Connor)

My personal highlights began from the flight from Dunedin. We had great weather and I took some stunning photos from my seat on the plane. Then I met my wonderful host family, who looked after me well and made sure I was welcomed into their home. It was interesting to compare my life in Dunedin with theirs and to experience travelling to school on a bus. I also noticed my family had to travel long distances to take my Billet (Fergus) to his sports and after school activities. Whereas in Dunedin I live closer to my school (I usually walk to school) and to my sport commitments. (Shelby)

My favourite part was probably RAINBOWS END it was pretty cool going on the rides with all my friends. My favourite ride was either the invader or Pirate Ship. Although every day we did something amazing. (Niketa)
